Super excited that Kringle made a whole ass old style forum (based as hell truly) to bum around on && meet new peeps.

Not 100% sure what to all include in an introductory post but like- we vibing.

I'm Charles! Love to yap ofc ofc I draw and write both fanworks and original stuff, also got in on that neocities grind ESPECIALLY for hosting twine / intfic games and some ttrpg dev stuff lol 

Currently have gotten SO into using the destroyed crayola markers I find at work to play around and make traditional art, but been finding my legs a wee bit with getting back to digital art programs too (:

OH -- super into Silent Hill 2, and Assassin's Creed (love Altaïr, but mostly have played AC2), Frostpunk, and solo TTRPGS uhhh I don't watch a huge amount of things but I HAVE watched Arcane and I like it (: i do also play League tho

Also really love languages && history :D i can function in french if i must

had to look up "intfic" to realize it was short for interactive fiction LMAOO. idk if you've found it yet but theres actually an interactive fiction forum! i haven't browsed it personally (yet) but maybe it could be a resource for you if its something you plan to work on more. and i know kay has made a thread for favorite games in videogames, that might b good place to find other ppl to talk about silent hill & stuff with. ik we got quite a few gamers in here.

YEAH BROTHER I did two languages in university (french and russian) but majored in history lol -- i used to be super into conlangs (constructed languages) too! && hell yeah i've seen the intfic forum around before (and read a bit) but not really posted in on it haha Perhaps..... a revival era

LMAO you got pretty close! i have one gig that we rent out a classroom && the teacher lets us use the art supplies that are in there -- i just really love to use the fucked up markers even though there's nicer ones in the room too

I've mostly just been playing with some OCs lately to get familiar with twine's harlowe language again tbh!! but i keep looking at the stack of solo ttrpgs i have and honestly might do some playthrus and see if i could get em into harlowe (or sugarcube if I feel fancy). I always think about lost among the starlit wreckage for that!

I usually DM, and I love trying new games, it's mostly that I've kinda lost my community. I've had to focus my attention on life stuff for a while now, and will still have to, but I've managed to achieve a bit more breathing room recently and I intend to get a tabletop gang together again. I've done the 24 hour ttrpg making jam at a con, and made a smurf game where I managed to make my players double over in laughter the whole session. Your character had no name, or rather: your class was your name, but you could ostensibly come up with any class you wanted. So now you are THE AERONAUT SMURF! The kicker? Smurfs are unable to wrap their head around the fact that there might be another aeronaut smurf out there, so if they do run into another smurf like them their little smurf brains short circuit into primal mode and have to kill the other. There can't be two! Also smurfs are very far down the food chain and they are very yummy, so most of the cute animals of the forest will happily hunt and eat them on sight. A very silly story, and it will never be as fun in retelling as it was playing after a 24 hour jam in a sleep deprived stupor.

Btw, I had to look up lost among the starlit wreckage, it seems really cool! After having read the description there was a little memory neuron sparking in my brain. Have you seen the anime short film Voices of a Distant Star from 2002? I'm think it might've inspired the creator of the game.

I gotta admit, I'm pretty curious about the stuff you make using those destoryed markers, I can't imagine the state that they're in so I can't imagine the kind of marks they can create, pretty interesting if you ask me. I'd love to see those at some point.

Haha we're kind of the opposite for the reason why we started looking into solo ttrpgs! I don't have peeps near me that would be interested in a group game but i love talkin to people lol

Ough for starting solo games it does def have like.. some caveats w like how much time you want to spend setting up && genre etc etc BUT i do absolutely have some recs -- I'll link the itchio pages! also full disclaimer i got all of these in the "Solo But Not Alone 2" , "Solo But Not Alone 3" && "Solo But Not Alone 4" bundles (they donate the proceeds to suicide prevention)

(free) They Mostly Come at Night -- single page survival horror
"As the last survivor of a mining colony in deep space, hold out against the creatures that have killed everyone else."
It is INCREDIBLY fast to set up and play (you really can play it with more or less character lore if you want) and there isn't a set way to record your playthru! I played one time with like... pretending it was the rescuing company going through and archiving the audio logs of the character that I was playing as (:

(free) A Fool's Errand -- single page game about the futile effort of trying to warn a king about their inevitable destruction.
"You are the jester in King Lyrics' court. Through mere observation you discovered a conspiracy threatening their rule. You now have the fruitless task of warning their majesty."
This one uses a deck of cards to give the RNG && it was a fun play even tho i absolutely fucked up reading the rules the first time LOL

($10usd) Sentinel -- multi-page book, you build a guardian and the sanctuary they are tasked to guard!
"You are the lone guardian of a place of great power - known to you only as The Sanctuary. Many years you have kept vigil in this place, guarding what is kept within from any and all who come to disrupt it or steal it for themselves."
IIRC the first time i played thru this one it was 3-4 hours but that'll change depending on what the dice roll and the cards you pull! It was fun though, gave a lot of creative space but not so much there was zero direction yk??

($15usd) Gun Cowboy -- Multi-page book ; You play as an outlaw that is at the end of a hard life and they WILL have a bad ending
"GUN COWBOY is a journalling game for one player about a dead outlaw at the end of a long career. They may not know they are dead, but they are. Once, they had a gang, a posse, a crew — that's gone now, and only they (and their gun) remain. They will burn themselves up until they are nothing but bones and dust."
This one can also play quite long! I've had multiple sessions with the same character (tho i also love to use 'em as writing exercise too so very much probably going way too many words into it than what is intended lol)

($5usd) BANNER -- You're recording the history of your civilization.
"This game is about a banner, the living artistic and historical record of a people who have been exiled - displaced and made countryless by an occupying power. The banner is a piece of fabric, embroidered and woven by many hands across the years. The banner chronicles the people's travels, hardships and triumphs. The banner begins as little more than a simple embroidery on fabric detailing the reasons for the people's exile, and can grow to be potentially hundreds of meters long."
This is the last one I've played of the list, but it was very interesting to combine art and writing for the playthrough (:

"You've messed with the wrong person, and they've been hunting you down for days.  You've lost a fight, you're badly injured and, you're exhausted. Chances are good that you won't see another twilight. If you can make it to your haven, you might survive; but that's a big if."

(1.99usd) BLOOD -- you play as an EMT with vampirism and trying to balance that while not being found out haha

(free) Alone Among the Stars -- this is a classic space exploration solo game! there's a version that'll play in browser too linked on the page.

That sounds like a BLAST of a game xD I could definitely see how that would be one of those fun lightning in a bottle delights playing it after the 24hr jam :D

They're not as exciting as you're making them sound LOL mostly they're destroyed by fraying or scrunched in tips or just SO DRY and streaky but trust u will see some of the things from em

@ofinscriptions i really encourage you to make a new thread with all this information, or to use the use the "split topic" feature (by pressing the more button) to move all posts you think are relevant into a new thread. there are a lot of really cool recommendations here, and it would be a shame if people in the future found them harder to find because they didnt know they were all tucked inside your intro thread
