guespiere

hi!  :crullins:

I have literally spent days wondering how to post my intro.  do I just write my life story or do I just keep it lowk and just say hi.  how do I find the middle ground?  I dunno.  whenever I had to stand up infront of the class at school and read my essay I wanted to cry.

I am gues, or guespiere.  most people just say gues though because I chose an overly complicated name.
I like to draw!  I like to paint most of all, actually, I suck at drawing and it makes me upset - but I'm trying to work on that!! I have also recently come to really enjoy 3D sculpting, I tried blender & zbrush and I liked zbrush more but lately I've been using 3Dcoat almost exclusively because voxel sculpting is ridiculously fun.  Its so much more organic.  I highly recommend!  one day I'd like to earn money with my art, ideally like as part of a team or studio or whatever you call it.  I think getting to be creative for work & paint all day sounds like a really fulfilling way to live -- but frankly I don't know how i'll ever get there.  seems impossible!

otherwise, I like music a LOT.  I have like 5 pairs of headphones and basically always have something playing.  I do not have a spotify, though.  I like to oil paint and paint miniatures as a hobby, and I really love reading - something I picked back up after being a nerd in school but stopping reading during highschool.  I am about to finish the Wheel of Time series (I'm like 3/4 of the way through the last book) so I'ma need something new to read soon!!!!
my favourite bands are probably Black Country, New Road; Crack Cloud; Chat Pile; truck violence; The Dillinger Escape Plan; The Orchestra (For Now); lice; Danny Brown; Alesana ((a guilty pleasure from when I used to be a mad emo)); ... and lots more but I'll honestly just start listing off practically every band I like if I don't stop.  I pretty much like all genres! I don't really care about that, I think any genre can be good it just depends on the people making the music & really how much they care.  I think Verdi's requiem is the best requiem and Mozart didnt do as good a job.

anyways, I am very glad to be here!  I can't believe the randomly off the cuff discussion of RVTVRN TO THE FORVMS actually became, like, a thing!

thanks kringl!!!!!!!!!!

I HAVE...
marshal majors IV (ew)
akg K712's
dt770 pro's (naturally)
ATH m50xbts (literally just for the bluetooth, mostly just for ipad drawin' times)
dekoni blue Fostex, custom planar magnetics
fostex tr50p 50th anniversary, which are just tr60p drivers in a neat tr50 case which looks rly cool & are my main drivers because they sound like a $1000 pair of headphones and I definitely did NOT spend that much. theres also only 500 ever made.  planar magnetics are just amazing once you wear em in, much nicer than dynamic drivers imo.

I also have some superlux hd668b's which are basically just this really cheap brand that kinda lowk rips off other brands, mine look like AKG's, but I put in custom drivers, padding, earpads and everything and they sound wonderful.  those are just for fun tho.

Gues mate! It's good to have you here!
Please take up space! You and your art is wonderful and should get space I think.

I'm also someone who has music on ALL THE TIME. It helps me regulate my emotions: if I'm processing sadness I listen to good sad music; if I feel angry or riled up I listen to aggressive or harsh music etc. etc. I wouldn't be alright if I didn't have music in my life. I remember signing up for spotify when it was in beta, and I had a huuuge library that I organized and curated for many years. But then they just deleted my account out of no where. Just boop - deleted. Everyting. No recourse. Probably bc I had been circumventing the ads completely. I have my playlists on youtube now (and always using adblocker) so it's okay, but these things are ephemeral, so I'm gonna make an effort to save all my music to a hard drive and dub things to audio tape (bc I love and collect audio cassettes).

I'm an old miniature nerd too. It's been a long time since I owned and painted anything. But back when I was active I had a Skaven army (oh boy was it a lot of painting the same kinda model over and over), two small Bretonnia and Beastmen bands - fewer more varied models, and very bright colors on the Bretonnian knights. But I always like making things gritty and grounded even if it's fantasy or flamboyant medieval stuff.
I also had a Tau 40k army. I modded every mech suit myself: bullet holes, torn off mechanical limbs, loose cables and all that. Very fun. I would love to talk and share some model painting modding stories/experiences!

You're super gues!

im so happy seeing all my frens i never talk to because there is literally a server for like every other 5 friends ;___;

Hi Piere!

I'm going to use the last part of your name because it doesn't get shown enough love.
No need to worry about standing up infront of the class, we are all in the same boat here. I'm glad you got though your introduction first because I want to steal your assay. I'll just change names and nobody will notice right?

On a more serious note, thanks for being around and open and vounerable with your struggles as an artist. As someone who made it - to the point of where I earn my income from art, you are going to need a new hobby. You are going to have to do twice as much art if you still want to feed your soul. Its exausting. But also very possible, so don't give up if you really want to get there!

Thanks for all the music recommendations, I am going to give them a listen and report back with opionions  :comfmonk:
I too enjoy almost all genres of music. My playlist is all over the place, and this will also shake it up nicely!

Enjoy your surf through CYBRSPACE, and stay safe out there
peace out

omg now im worried that when i called u gues i was bullying u the entire time, if we're suggesting alternative nicknames id suggest GP even tho thats like, even shorter LMAO.

i'm sorry you felt so pressured when writing this post guespier :,( !!! i knew u were talkin 2 me abt it but i didn't realize that was the root of it, if it helps i think u did a good job!!

seconding what valley said that ur not allowed to say ur bad at drawing, but its super valid 2 be frustrated by where u are on your journey & its great that your taking steps to help u feel more confident. its super cool that ur learning 3d id do that but 3d scares me. u r braver and stronger than i. on kind of on the opposite side of what nirest said i think its also

& i had no idea u liked music so much!!! i found 'ants from up there' last year and its deff a very emotional album. and good on ya for not having spotify.  ik i mostly have things downloaded on2 my computer, but i want 2 get in2 having a cd collection for the art & tactile experience. (i have a cd player/burner, we should totally trade mixtapes!)
also: my go 2 fact for convincing ppl to devest spotify is that they actually sponsored trumps inauguration party LMAO

yall talking abt books so much in the read&watch board makes me realize i need to get my reading up tho,,,, ive been on the teet of fanfic for too long....

but yeah, ty for being as excited about this forum as i am gues, won't lie our conversation was a big part of what gave me the motivation to do get all of this set up. so fr, thank u gues! it seems silly, but that 1 convo deff stayed with me through this project  :comfmonk:

Auto!  Yeah, music really helps regulate my life, too!  I think it has ever since I was a wee kid who got their first Backstreet Boys CD and their first shock-resistant walkman :')
I didn't know you had any minis, though!  All your choices are 10/10 and frankly what I would like to make, some time.  Especially the Skaven & Beastmen.   I'm really big into modding them and making them little bases and just customizing poses in any way I can, really.  It's 90% of the hobby, I doubt I'll ever play a game (might be cool tho!)

hiii sugoi!!  I don't think I've gotten to talk to you a whole lot, though everywhere I look you're there :D Hopefully with this forum we can talk more!!!

I think I'm a bit too open some times lmfao, but I'm glad you'll look at the music!  I remember specifically posting some Crack Cloud & you rly seemed into it, which is neat, they're easily in my top 3/5 bands of all time, I love the whole idea of a collective band that has members kinda freely come & go; and their music is about rly great things - their albums have actually been like a story of their own personal(s) growth!!

Quote from: kringle on Feb 25, 2026, 09:09 AM...

LMAO no no one's bullying, i like gues!  it's cute!  I just should've picked a name that ain't some dead french word meaning a hornets nest or something figurative like can of worms.  I do enjoy the figurative sense, though.

its funny you mention the drawing aspect because YOU are someone I look up to for drawing.  you & dom & others who esp have just such good flow and draftsmanship, I envy it!  I might talk ill of myself a LOT but I usually don't have any like... real meaning behind it.  It's just like mini-self-deprecation cause I WILL BE BETTER and if I wanna make good paintings I rly gotta get on board and make good DRAWINGS.   I also envy just how you drawers all can just......... DRAW STUFF. like u sit down and just like.. go.. and characters and objects and places appear.  i dunno i have been attempting this for awhile, just like doodle, and ITS HARD.  with colour and shape and stuff it's easier to see something kinda come into focus and then you work on realizing that.  with line I havent figured out, if you ever even can, to like make something unexpected appear.

I'm glad that convo we had gave u motivation because I thought about it a lot, too! when u sent me that message our talk was literally the first thing that popped into my head!  and its so wonderful here!   :comfmonk:

hello guespiere! happy to see you here!

i used to lean more to painting - had a big chunk of my art '''journey''' be just painting and constructing with values and blocking out shapes instead of sketch/lines. i'm still learning on all fronts but it is possible to transition to drawing, fear not... there's a lot of overlap of skills so i'm sure you'll feel comfortable in no time. :>
with that being said, i think it definitely helps, but i don't think you HAVE to be able to draw well in order to paint well? if painting is the end goal, anyway. but you already have a rly good eye and excellent craftsmanship on that front, so i get wanting to learn a new skill too!

I really wish I had all the pictures left from that era, but I'm afraid they're all on an sd card inside an old digital camera in a landfill somewhere.
I used to also paint for my friends who had the reverse situation: just wanna play, don't wanna paint. I remember painting a lizardmen army. It was pretty fun bc I was allowed to go nuts with the colors, so I did a lot of bright tropical amphibian/reptile colors.

Hai Gues!

I think you did a bang up job intro-ing yourself, feels like I got to know some cool stuff about you!
Such as, we're fellow DT 770s owners (I don't treat mine right but it holds up SO well dude great brand, wonderful brand even). And we have a similar arc with reading but, I fell out of reading after I graduated high school. I'm trying to get back into it though I've struggled finding fiction so I think I'll be coming to you for recommendations after I do the read along with kringle.

In regards to art, I think we're on opposite ends of the spectrum, I specced hard into drawing and have difficulty wrapping my mind around painting beyond value studies. So I've always been impressed with your environments and colors! Good to know you picked up 3D, I'm looking forward to seeing some of that from you if you feel inclined to share any.

It was nice learning about you and hope to see you around!!
