I've been in my sci-fi era lately...
Culture series are really cool it's mostly about a post scarcity human society where they've got complete freedom. Kinda a lil utopia and most people are kinda hedonistic oo and theyve also got like complete freedom over their own bodies. can change their sex at will and change how they look. ....
really fun stuff
but thats just the backdrop of the stories. Main points are about what this utopian society does when they meet other alien species that are still having wars and have way less sophisticated technology.. The age old question if they should interviene or let them do as they please
anyways id really reccomend it!!!!
for book recs i really loved project hail mary and the whole 3 body problem is also a blast!!

omg utopian society,,,, jelly,,,,

but i feel like somehow this is also about colonialism??? the idea that the ingroup is sophisticated & civilized vs the outgroup that is underdeveloped & barbaric. i feel like this is why in startrek they had a very firm 'no interference w non-space age societies' policy. like just because you Have the Power to change something doesn't mean you Should.

but also it sounds like your saying thats literally what the stories about LMAO. thats crayyz tho, 10 books!!! thats a lotta books.

i need to finish house of leaves and that cowboy book lili really liked but afterwardsmaybe ill take a gander at them.

YOOOOOOOOOOOOO I LOVE THE EXPANSE books. now u have to watch the show!!! They did a marvelous job with the Avasarala casting. She's GLORIOUS.

I haven't read much recently but I did watch Pantheon which is based on a few of Ken Liu's short stories. I'd recommend both for high concept scifi. Very thoughtful and evocative stories with straightforward prose that takes the occasional nerdy detour.

Tell me more about the culture series! What do you like about it? What do you dislike about it? etc etc

Oh DOH I missed ur post. Project Hail Mary was a really fun read, so glad it's getting an adapatation. Are you planning on seeing it? I'm torn between wanting to see Rocky on the big screen but also... what if they make him look Wrong. I enjoyed the first book in the 3 body problem series, but I feel like it's really a smart book for big readers and I need to be really locked in to tackle dense reading like that.

I have the first book on my shelf!  I jsut need to actually start it.. when I finish another series. I'm weird in that I can't start a series until I finish one, but one-offs inbetween books is fine.  actually, maybe that isn't weird at all.

Nirest

I really enjoyed reading "Project Hail Mary" which is a science fiction novel by Andy Weir.
It centers on school teacher Ryland, who wakes up aboard a spacecraft afflicted with amnesia.
In the course of the book you slowly start to find out how he got on board of the ship and what his mission is.
Im not sure I want to watch the movie thats coming out.
But I can recommend the book, it was quite an interesting read and kept me hooked until the last page :)
