YESSSS the marco bucci painting series is something i think a lot about during my process, expesh using sodt/hard shadow edges to not only convey form but also as a stylistic tool. your excersize here is deffo looking killer!!

were u just practicing how to soften edges in general? do u think ull do anymore exerisizes like this? (is excited and curious)

Mostly when and where, if that makes sense, ive had real live thoughts about how paintings have soft and hard edges and how awesome that is, but never attempted doing it myself! I'll probably try to incorporate it into my art now, but knowing myself, its unlikely i'll do more exercises😅

Good luck with your exercises, it is looking good so far :nukocheer: The YouTube channel you shared looks really interesting and I will try to give it a watch myself one of these days.
What art software do you use? I recently started using a program that emulates traditional painting and I think it really highlights the importance of using traditional art techniques more than other programs because you can't just rely on adding a ton of overlays/filters/etc. to adjust the colours later.  :comfmonk:

some other programs that emulate trad are rebelle and artrage, tho i dont use them myself so cant speak for their quality

Yeah, ArtRage is actually the one I was referring to  :nukoyay: I've used it for a while since I remember the first version I've used of it was ArtRage 4 (which was released in 2013, I believe) and it still definitely holds up. It's not as feature-rich as Rebelle (and the other notable 'traditional emulation' software, Corel Painter) but the simplicity makes it much easier to pick-up, and it has one of the nicest UI's I've seen in a drawing software. It's also really lightweight so it was always nice to use on old/cheap laptops, I used one that only had 4GB RAM as my daily driver for like seven years and ArtRage and SAI were the only drawing software I could run on it with ease  :mimimimimi:

Anyway not to derail the thread too much:

Randomly discovered that one of my staetdler graphite pencils is water soluble! Ive had it for years and never questioned why it was darker blue than the others ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Anyways! Ive never used them before so i played around with it a bunch yesterday at work (on printer paper tho... which wasnt the best combo with water)
